The new year is a time to reflect on our past year and look forward to the new one. The New Year promises happiness and excitement, and everyone celebrates it with new zeal. A time of renewal and growth when we are expected to focus on our personal development and growth. In this spirit, we should reflect on what we have done well in the past year and what we can do better next year.
We should also focus on our goals for the coming year to achieve them by following a proper path toward them. Everyone celebrates the New Year; differently, most people use alcohol to symbolize happiness and celebration. Alcohol consumption is one of the oldest ways to the festival, but as Muslims, we avoid alcohol because Islam prohibits all such things that cause you to lose your senses.
Prohibition of alcohol at New Year
Excessive drinking during this period is bound to cause problems for both men and women. There are numerous reasons why excessive drinking can cause severe problems in our lives. Alcohol affects our brains and body in many ways, and it affects our short-term memory, concentration, and judgment. Alcohol also interferes with our body’s ability to produce enzymes that help break down toxic substances such as alcohol, medications, or other drugs.
The most common effects of excessive drinking are nausea, blackouts, memory loss, and damage to vital organs like the liver or heart muscle. Some people develop alcohol dependence after only one drink (also known as “binge drinking”). This condition leads to alcohol withdrawal symptoms if you suddenly stop drinking without proper treatment — such as turning off your computer or taking a break from work.
Alcohol is widely used for various purposes like celebrating parties, weddings, festivals, etc. It is not unusual for people to drink during the New Year celebration. However, there are many adverse effects of alcohol consumption, like heart disease, cancer, and many other diseases, that can be prevented if you stop drinking now.
Alcohol has a substantial impact on your body because it is made up of ethanol (ethyl alcohol), which is a chemical compound found in many fruits and vegetables, including grapes, apples, and potatoes. Ethanol is also found in beer, wine, and liquor. It affects your brain by lowering its inhibitions which leads to reckless behavior such as driving under the influence of alcohol or losing one’s job due to poor performance while under the influence.
Prohibition of alcohol at new year in Islam
Prohibiting alcoholic drinks at the end of the year is a stringent and harsh penalty for human beings. No one likes to drink alcohol at the end of the year because it makes him forget about all his problems and sorrows for a few days to enjoy himself in this world. But what if there is no more alcohol in this world? Then how would people have fun? This problem has been solved by Allah (SWT) because He has given us another way to celebrate New Year.
We should make Haji (pilgrimage) to Mecca and keep praying there. This way, we will be happy and satisfied with our lives because we will feel that we are doing good deeds for our Lord, who will reward us with success in this life and the next one.
The Qur’an (2:219) states that God has cursed Satan, who tries to lead people astray with his vain talk, and has ordered him to be driven away.
The Hadith mentions explicitly that it is haram to drink or smoke any alcoholic beverage during Rajab. Many Hadiths forbid smoking, drinking, and eating during Ramadan and on days of Eid.
Whether you drink a little or a lot of alcohol, it is prohibited because even a tiny amount of it reduces our ability to think And people do not respond in a state of unconsciousness Because alcohol was used in Arabia even before Islam, it is prohibited in the Holy Quran.(if you want to learn about islam and Quran take online Quran clasess).

“يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِنَّمَا ٱلْخَمْرُ وَٱلْمَيْسِرُ وَٱلْأَنصَابُ وَٱلْأَزْلَـٰمُ رِجْسٌ مِّنْ عَمَلِ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ فَٱجْتَنِبُوهُ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُون”
“O Believers, wine, gambling, (ungodly) shrines and divining devices are all abominable works of Satan”
